Frilly bolero, hand-sewn.

I used two different fabrics, not because I wanted but it’s more like I had to because I made it from left over fabrics. Each of them was not enough big to make the bolero.

I also used this kimono fabric to face the back side.

I think it went quite well. I might try this way of making clothes again.

I’ve been making clothes out from partly damaged japanese traditional Kimono for 2 years. Fascinated to the beautiful patterns of thoes fabrics.

Now, It’s not like I’m tired of kimono fabric but I started to feel like I’d like to use “normal” fabrics, too. So from now on, I’m going to use leftover kimonos for a part of the clothes.

To these face masks

I love sewing but for some reason I was not very keen on making face masks when they are tons of patterns online right now.
I’m now in the middle of 2 week self-isolation because I visited UK (that’s the rule in Japan).
I can’t go out if it’s not necessary, I decided to do a major housecleaning and found some scrap of clothes, and thought, okay maybe it’s a time to make my own face maskes.

I’ve tried some of the patterns but they didn’t look okay on my face (let’s forget that I don’t have a pretty face). After many attempts, I think I custom-made my own face mask.

Made out from japanese traditional Kimono, hand-sewn.

This kimono is made from a traditional technique of tie-dyeing.
We call the technique 絞り染め(shiborizome).
絞り=tie / 染め=dyeing

Close-up

It takes a lot of time to make this tie-dye fabric,
so it costs a lot.
My friend gave me,
she got it from her friend
but she said it was not her taste.
It’s still wearable and too nice to cut out.
I kept it for months,
didn’t have the courage to cut out.

But finally!

Because it’s hubbly
it doesn’t stick to your skin
—perfect for Japanese summer.

I used to not wear black tops, because black colour is too strong. Since I changed my hair to bright colour, I noticed black tops suits to my hair colour, started to like black tops.

I didn’t put facing because this is sheer fabric, instead I covered the edge with the same fabric.
